Bringing sustainable design-build to the public with accessible materials

Community-driven and ran by volunteers, Blackbird Public Arts offers free construction education while creating functional structures in the Pacific Northwest.

Our mission is to bring interactive, largescale art installations out from behind the paywall into the open air so that they can be experienced without economic barrier.

Festivals, farms, and parks. That’s where we build.

If you have land that could benefit from a 10+ foot tall architectural art installation, we want to hear from you! We pick one project per season and would love for it to be on your festival grounds, public access land, or agricultural tourism site. Installations can be temporary or permanent — it is up to you.

Ready to build a community (and some art along the way)?

Our installations are 100% volunteer built, and no construction experience is required to sign up! We have a core crew of experienced carpenters, architects, and designers who love to share their trade.

“Blackbird has given me a sense of fulfillment and pride that I didn’t think I would find.”
